CPR and Standard First Aid for Massage and Polarity Students

Any student enrolled in a Massage Therapy Program or the Polarity Therapy Career Program is required to have current CPR and First Aid Certification at the time of graduation.  Here are some tips to help you achieve this requirement.

«     The course must have Adult CPR and Standard First Aid.  Some courses offered by American Heart Association (AHA) only do CPR and do not cover the first aid component.

«     American Red Cross (ARC) will give you two certificates: one year CPR and 3 years first aid.  American Heart Association will give one certificate for two years and it will say Basic Life Saving and First Aid.

«     To help you to achieve completing this requirement, each site does offer classes 2-3 times a year.  If interested in one of these classes sign up early otherwise it could be canceled.

«     If signing up for a community based class with ARC or AHA sign up early as many of their course get canceled.  They may schedule 2-3 per months but may actually hold only one every other month because of enrollment.

«     Do not wait until the last 1-2 months of your program to get this completed.  It could delay your graduation.  Some previous students who waited till 1-2 months prior to graduation to complete CPR and SFA ended up graduating 2-3 months late as every course they signed up for in the community got canceled because of poor enrollment.

«     Certifications can be done at the beginning of your program instead of waiting till the end.

«     Once certificates are received have copies made for the registrar to place in your file.

«     LPN or RN Nurses can use their nursing license as a substitute for the first aid component of this requirement.  The same is true for people with current MD, EMT, or Paramedic License.
