Request Info Request Tour

Phishing takes many forms but usually attempts to get some sort of meaningful data about you that can be used for identity theft.

Primarily you will get emails that appear to come from banks, credit card companies, security firms, software vendors or many other sources that appear to be legitimate. In particular, the email address will look like it is coming from a legitimate source. The problem is, email addresses can be spoofed to look like something other than what they are.

The most insidious ones will appear to show that your account has already been hacked and you need to login to the security section to reconfirm your information. Even by responding you are signaling that your email address is valid and this will help them to refine their future attacks and scams.

The proper response is to delete the email. Don't click on any of the links. The links can be disguised and may actually run a program on your computer that does many bad things, from using your computer as a zombie to taking important information from your cookies and sending it to other hacker sites.

Always remember, if any email or website is asking for any information including your date of birth, you are giving out information that may lead to identity theft. Be very certain of the source and be sure to validate that it is legitimate.
