Graduate Spotlight September 2017 Kelsey Scherzinger

Spa Tech • Nov 06, 2017

Kelsey is one of Spa Tech Institute’s 2015 600-hour aesthetic graduates. Before coming to school, Kelsey worked in the food industry for many years. She did everything from serving, working in a fast food restaurant and a deli, then eventually working as a manager. She grew tired of this industry and thought about what would make her happy. She had a friend who graduated from Spa Tech Institute’s massage program who recommended she check us out for our aesthetics program. She was always interested in skin care and makeup so her decision to look at Spa Tech Institute was an easy one.

Barbara HubbardWhen Kelsey visited Spa Tech Institute she felt right at home because of the great energy and the inviting friendly staff. She enrolled in the program and took off running. She had an instant love for her teachers and the program. She said, “School was fun, it was like a family where we were all comfortable with each other. I enjoyed going to school every day.” She felt it was a very comprehensive program where she not only learned how to give a facial but about how to wax, apply makeup, do body wraps and learn the business aspect of aesthetics. Kelsey states, “I learned everything I needed to work in a spa, even how to run a spa.” Makeup days were her favorite because this is when she could be creative.

When Kelsey graduated she was employed at The Salon CC on Bourbon Street in Peabody. This salon is owned by Rochelle Agenta and Tina Sdankus. She has an extensive skin care service list where she incorporates enzyme treatments, eye treatments and anti-aging hand treatments into what she offers her clients. She recently attended North Shore Community College where she learned how to give manicures and pedicures and specializes in gel manicures. She has also taken a lash and brow tinting class and is learning Reiki to offer a specialized treatment.

Her favorite aspect of her job is knowing that she makes people feel good about themselves which gives them confidence. She loves how she makes people feel special and loves the relationships she makes along the way.

Being dual licensed helps Kelsey build her clientele. Her skincare clients become her nail clients and when her nail clients realize she is also an aesthetician they book right away with her.

She gives advice to current students by saying, “Focus on leaning what you like best – the waxing, makeup or facials and have fun.” She doesn’t feel like she works because she absolutely loves what she does. Kelsey and her 5-year-old boy, Brady, live right down the road from the spa which works very well for her lifestyle.
