LICENSING REQUIREMENTS FOR INDUSTRY

Because licensing requirements are constantly changing, the school provides you links to the state websites with the requirements for Maine and Massachusetts. The information on these links is not always up to date so be sure to check with the licensing board in your state to confirm the current requirements.


MAINE LICENSING

Maine has a state license exam for Barbering, Cosmetology, Aesthetics and Nail Tech. The massage license requires graduation from an approved school but no exam. Polarity therapy has no state license but some towns may have requirements that you will need to comply with. Additionally, if you are self-employed there may also be additional requirements that you register your business with either the state or town. It’s up to you to check on the requirements where you may choose to work.

POLARITY THERAPY

Polarity therapy is not licensed in Maine or Massachusetts. The requirements for practicing polarity therapy will vary based on state and location. The Certification Exam offered by the American Polarity Therapy Association is available and may be recognized by some states and towns as a credential. MASSAGE CERTIFICATION EXAMS

Massachusetts and Maine do not require a certification exam. However, other states may require a certification exam as a prerequisite to licensing. The two current exams for massage are the MBLEx and the NCBTMB.

 

INSURANCE

Whether you need insurance to practice is regulated by the state. That being said, it’s always a good idea to have appropriate coverage. The cost can vary from around $100 for some massage insurance up to several hundred dollars depending on the coverage you choose. A search of the web will turn up many options and information will be provided as part of your training as well.
